Finnish maintenance and airworthiness management provider Joen Service has added R66 and EC130 support to its portfolio and has recently been awarded Russian maintenance certification in addition to its EASA approvals. The company has also worked with Genesys Aerosystems to provide HeliSAS autopilots, as well as completing a number of glass cockpit conversions.

“Avionics play a major role in keeping today's fleets flying tomorrow,” says chairman Jan Segerstam. “Our cooperation with Garmin, Bose and Aspen Avionics enables us to provide full avionics services.

“We serve a lot of operators doing aerial work and training as well as private helicopter owners; just over 100 aircraft in total from our main base at Joensuu. We also have locations providing services in central and south-western Finland along with Helsinki-Malmi airport, where the pressure to close the airport still persists.”

Joen's location and capabilities also work well for clients from the other Nordic countries, for whom it provides operations and support capability for floatplanes in Norway for travel operators with cruise ship customers. In addition, it has an AOC which enables it to support businesses with aviation needs. It operates as JS Aviation with bases at Joensuu and Turku, and also offers management services. Segerstam explains: “In Finland we have a Chieftain for cargo and business flights, and a second one providing an aerial survey platform for survey flight operations. We also organise experience flights for tour operators, especially for Asian customers. We either enable our customers to fly their aircraft or fly them for their business.”
