Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) has signed an agreement for a new H145 from Airbus Helicopters in the UK. A step up in capability from its MD900 G-SASH, it offers YAA increased range, payload and cabin space with which to provide critical care services across its region of operation. The agreement also includes the provision of a long-term comprehensive support package.

YAA's H145 is fitted with a Bucher interior specifically customised to its emergency services requirements, and is also equipped with a rescue hoist that, when combined with a reduced footprint, will enable the company to provide critical care and transport for patients from remote or inaccessible locations. Full night flying is possible and the cockpit has a four-axis autopilot.

YAA will also benefit from the long-term, comprehensive support arrangement, which is tailored to the 400 or more hours per year the charity projects it will fly. The agreement covers material management and 24/7 support across the UK.

Chairman of YAA Peter Sunderland says: “We have completed a detailed review of our evolving needs for service delivery over the next 25 years and are delighted to be replacing our 16-year-old MD900 aircraft.”

A pledge of £1 million by Chancellor George Osborne has been instrumental in helping YAA renew its helicopter.
