A Challenger 604 owned by Germany's FAI Aviation Group has completed its final journey onboard an Antonov 124. The flight, from Muscat in Oman to Albrecht Duerer International airport in Nuremberg, was arranged by FAI, which purchased the aircraft for parting out. The CL604 made an emergency landing at Muscat International airport in January 2017 after having experienced heavy turbulence from an Airbus A380 crossing the Challenger's airway.

The aircraft's fuselage was declared irrecoverable by Bombardier, because the aircraft had been exposed to 3.5G during the incident. A team of engineers from subsidiary FAI Technik removed part of the wings and the tail before the aircraft could embark the An-124 for its last flight to Nuremberg.

Additionally, FAI has appointed consultant Peter Oncken to its board. He will work alongside chairman Siegfried Axtmann and the senior management team at the company's Nuremberg headquarters.

During his 15 years in the aviation industry, Oncken has served as managing partner of Germany's Intro Aviation, which has carried out restructuring for several international and regional carriers. He was also instrumental in selling business aviation operator Fly Alpha to FAI several years ago. “This is an excellent opportunity to get proactively involved in the exciting arena that is business aviation with the leading player in Germany,” he comments. “There is huge potential in both the air ambulance and air charter markets.”

Axtmann adds: “Peter brings an exciting new dimension and it is pleasing to have someone of his calibre and skillset join us. With his guidance we can steer FAI into new territories in 2018.”
